Awaiting

Awaiting the coming of spring and of new life :-)

It's there and it will eventually awake, but it's been a long wait this year.
On the other hand waiting is very much part of the process, as it has always been.

Amazing how people have lived for millenia according to the same principles coming from the seasons and associated symbolism, never mind what names they gave to their gods and goddesses the sacred rhythm has always been the same.

We are now in the waiting period for the greatest of mysteries - the spring rebirth of Adonis, of Jesus, of the lover and the son, young man full of vitality who will descend to the underworld and come back to revive the earth and to make it fertile with his blood and seed.

Later the May maiden will come on Beltane, and the reunion of the maiden with the lover sometime around June 24th - St. John's, Kupala, Midsummer - when the solar king is at the highest of his power. The union shall bear fruit around the harvest time, the king will be sacrificed and the Great Mother will reign and protect us with her powerful magic from the halloween invaders, the evil spirits lurking in the darkness of the long winter nights, till the spring comes again and the sun is high up to warm our souls.

No matter what names are given to the festivals, no matter what gods and saints are celebrated, the earth keeps spinning round, the seasons come and go, we get older, some of us get wiser...

It's probably wise to live and enjoy every season and what it brings us, so after hot soup and chestnuts of winter I'm quite ready to celebrate the awaiting of spring with acquisition of a new dress ;-)
