Wonders of Old

I bought this book some time ago.

But only now had time to really look inside, check the layout, the pictures, the general concept of the thing.
Now I have some 500 pages to read, and read I will.
Gothic still impresses me in many aspects, many things remain mysterious and unexplained even in the light of modern technology. How did the people of so called "dark ages" manage to make those wonders? We will never know for sure, as we have no idea how the pyramids were built. These wonders not only were built, but survived wars, turmoils, architecture taste changes and other calamities.
Many of the pictures reminded me of places I visited and of how I stood in awe in Venice and Siena, in Chartres and Paris, in Seville and Santiago. These are mine already, entered through my eyes (and camera lenses) to be stored in that corner of my soul where beautiful things live and glow. Poetic, huh? Still true.
There are people who don't care or don't see the world, sad people, and there are those who live the world. Some do it through sounds some though tastes and aromas, I do it though my eyes while endlessly walking around.
The book and the images also reminded me of all those places I still want to walk around and see. Food for thought and for the eyes of the soul.
What to do, what to do... apart from reading those 500 pages of course...
